As a retirement destination, Florida seems an obvious choice. Retirees will find plenty of sunshine, friends, and things to do. But where will active adults find the most bang for their retirement buck?
In a study released by CreditDonkey.com (a financial education website), Sarasota was named the best city in the country for retirement.
What Makes Sarasota The Best Place To Retire?
The study compiled U.S. Census Bureau data to find the percentage of the community’s population aged 60 and older, the percentage of multi-unit structures, healthcare available per 1,000 people, cultural attractions, and population growth.
Using this data, the website ranked the ten best small cities for retirement. Sarasota owes its first place ranking to its 60+ population, health care practices, and available homes. Here are the numbers for Sarasota, FL:
- 35.9% of the population are 60 or older
- 24.7% of housing is multi-unit, such as condo communities
- 3.34 healthcare practices per 1,000 people
- 15 cultural attractions such as museums or historical sites
- 1.6% population growth
The Place To Be For Retirees
The website noted that with a 1.6% population growth rate, Sarasota is also one of the fastest growing areas on the list. Because of this, the author says, “…retirees looking to settle down in this coastal resort town better get there quickly.”
Factor in excellent golf, fishing, and climate, and Sarasota is an easy choice for retirement. Additionally, there are a number of excellent real estate options such as maintenance free properties and beautiful condos.
