If you live in Sarasota, you know there’s a lot to love about our corner of the Sunshine State—and others are taking notice.
US News and World Report just released their ranking of the best places to live in the nation, and Sarasota ranked the highest out of every other city in Florida! What makes living in Sarasota so fantastic? Keep reading to figure out how these rankings work and what this means for our area.
Sarasota was Ranked Based on Many Factors
When compiling its “Best Cities” list, US News and World Report had thorough criteria. Each city was ranked based on desirability, value, job market, quality of life and net migration. All of these factors make up the final score, and Sarasota scored consistently higher than every Florida city, with an overall ranking of #18 out of 125 other cities.
The stats don’t lie—Sarasota scored a 10 out of 10 for net migration, which means people can’t get enough of our sandy beaches and laid-back attitude. Sarasota also received marks over 7 for desirability and quality of life, and judges praised our shopping and dining opportunities.
There’s Even More that Makes Sarasota Great
Of course, there’s even more that makes Sarasota a great place to live. When evaluating Sarasota, US News also highlighted our growing job market, burgeoning entertainment scene, and so much more.
One of the top reasons to move to Sarasota has always been our thriving job market. As we experience record growth, more and more jobs are coming to the area. You’ll see the most expansion in healthcare, tourism, and transportation, with education close behind. We also have a robust small business community, so if you’re considering investing in the local economy, now is the time!
US News also praised Sarasota for its golfing and social opportunities, which are popular for retirees. In fact, US News ranked Sarasota as the #3 place in the nation to retire, so there’s always something to do! Of course, the area is also great for families, as we have fantastic schools and parks for everyone to enjoy.
Sarasota Will Continue to Grow
Unsurprisingly, Sarasota’s growth isn’t slowing down any time soon. Living in Sarasota is becoming more popular, especially for those looking to relocate to a warmer climate. Even though Sarasota is only the 51st largest city in Florida, the population has spiked by 11% since 2010.
What does this mean for Sarasota? Expect a significant amount of growth for years to come, but don’t worry—living here will still be a breeze. Sarasota’s infrastructure is constantly improving, and you’ll still be able to enjoy everything you love about living here.
