Sarasota Lifestyle: The Best Beaches for a Day Trip

What’s the best part of living in a city like Sarasota? Well, apart from the culture, the amazing entertainment options, and the sky-high property values… you have to admit, the beaches here are pretty nice.

In fact, living in Sarasota County means being a convenient drive away from some of the area’s most gorgeous beaches. Steer clear of the tourist traps—here are four beaches to check out for a fabulous day trip.

Anna Maria Island

Soft white sand, glittering blue water, and free parking! What’s not to love about Anna Maria Island? Travel across the bridge to discover this gorgeous oceanfront oasis.

A few things to keep in mind: while this beach isn’t as crazy as some of Sarasota County’s other popular spots, it’s still a good tip to get there early. Traffic, on the bridge especially, can get intense. In addition, the beach is very close to the shoreline!

But, best of all, Anna Maria Island is peaceful, tranquil, and stunning—and it’s only 45 minutes away from the heart of Sarasota. It’s the perfect place to roll out your beach towel and relax under the sun.

Siesta Beach

Less than 30 minutes from Sarasota proper, Siesta Beach is the perfect place for a siesta! It has white, powdery sand that somehow also manages to stay cool—even when temperatures creep up to the high 90s!

Go for a swim and try to find the sand bar, play some frisbee in the soft sand, lay out with your favorite book, or head over to the nearby village for some amazing seafood and shopping! All the best parts of the beach are right at your fingertips in Siesta Key.

Turtle Beach

In addition to Siesta Beach, Siesta Key is home to a charming (if somewhat smaller) beach destination: Turtle Beach. It’s just over 20 minutes away from Sarasota by car, and offers the same soft, white sand and gorgeous water.

It’s biggest pro might be that it’s almost always less crowded than Siesta Beach and Anna Maria Island! Plus, it has some of the best fishing in the area!

Coquina Beach

25 minutes outside of Sarasota lies the one-of-a-kind beaches of Longboat Key. In particular, Coquina Beach is an experience worth having. Here you’ll find clean sand, turquoise water, ample shaded areas, and breathtaking views.

Get here early for a long day of peaceful relaxation and oceanside fun. Parking is usually pretty easy to find, as this place is never as busy as Turtle Beach or Siesta.
