We know all about what makes Sarasota so great, but it’s nice to get some national recognition every now and then. Just a few days ago, U.S. News & World Report came out with their list of 57 outstanding hospitals in the nation—and Sarasota Memorial Hospital garnered praise in every category!

The Details of the Rankings
To complete their ratings, U.S. News & World Report evaluated over 4,500 hospitals across the country, from Florida to Oregon to Ohio, and everywhere in between. The organization rated each hospital on how they handled nine different procedures/conditions, including:
- Colon cancer surgery
- Lung cancer surgery
- COPD
- Heart failure
- Heart bypass surgery
- Aortic valve surgery
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
- Knee replacement
- Hip replacement
For each of the above categories, the hospital was given either a high, average, or below average score. U.S. News & World Report has been compiling this list for 30 years now, and Sarasota Memorial Hospital nabbed a top spot this year!
Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Ranking
SMH was one of the only 57 hospitals that were able to snag a top rating in each of the nine categories, earning it a spot in the top 1%—and the title of Best Regional Hospital in the Sarasota-Bradenton-North Port area. In addition to their top overall ranking, Sarasota Memorial Hospital also received special recognition for their overall orthopedic care.
The ratings are designed to make it easier for patients to make an informed choice about which facility they choose to receive care, and we think Sarasota Memorial Hospital set a pretty high bar.
